MEDWAY: KEY ENTRY TO MT. KATAHDIN
Medway, a key entry point to Baxter State Park and Mt. Katahdin is roughly 60 miles north of Bangor. Incorporated in 1875, Medway is well known for its' proximity to Baxter State Park. Medway can be found just off I-95 at the forks of East and West Branch of the Penobscot rivers. Estimated population is 1,489.The area is rich with history and beauty and provides tourists with year-round opportunities including dining and lodging, hiking, camping, canoeing, fishing, whitewater rafting, snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling. In August, Medway hosts its annual Wooden Canoe Festival, a three-day event honoring the history and tradition of canoe making which has formed the region's heritage.
